Celebrity Dyspraxic | Cara Delevingne

28-year-old Cara Delevingne from the Uk is one of the world’s highest-paid models. Her acting career includes 2015’s indie hit Paper Towns, 2016’s star-studded Suicide Squad, 2017 sci-fi epic Valerian, where she performed many of the alien-butt-kicking stunts herself and her most recent movie role called Life in a year.

Cara proudly states that she is pansexual, which is having sexual, romantic, or emotional attraction towards people regardless of their sex or gender identity. Pansexual people may refer to themselves as gender-blind, asserting that gender and sex are not determining factors in their romantic or sexual attraction to others.

She is also one of the small but growing number of celebrities who have spoken openly about having dyspraxia. Delevingne has described school as a tough time for her as she found handwriting difficult and taking tests were especially more stressful. Despite her dyspraxia, she actually started playing the drums at an early age as a way to help burn off excess energy.

Dyspraxia didn’t keep Delevingne from becoming a novelist with her book Mirror Mirror a coming-of-age story about 16-year-old friends “who are all trying to figure out who they are and navigate the minefield of school and relationships.”.

It also didn’t keep her from playing a futuristic action hero in Valerian. She mastered tricky choreography and mastered the stunts.

“To jump headfirst off of a side of a thing attached to a wire,” she said, “that’s like my favorite thing.”

Lots of boxing, running and a type of martial arts called Muay Thai helped her prepare for her role and learn the choreography. All of which as sports highly recommend to other dyspraxics to help with gross motor skills and muscle-strengthening (to combat low muscle tone commonly accruing with dyspraxia).

“We trained every day. I’ve never been so strong,” she said. She prepared mentally as well as physically. “I meditated, I practiced yoga, I ate well, I slept a lot. You can’t embrace anything wholeheartedly without a clear head.” Cara makes a fantastic role model for other dyspraxics, which is why we love her!
